Procedure for Applying for Clerkship
Procedure for Applying for a Clerkship with the Supreme Judicial Court
On August 22, 2011, the Supreme Judicial Court
will begin accepting applications for clerkships for the court year that begins Wednesday, August 29, 2012. Candidates are encouraged to apply as early as possible, and no later than September 26, 2011. The Justices will interview and make offers on a rolling basis beginning on September 12, 2011. Favorable action on early submitted applications may foreclose consideration of those received later. Interviews will be scheduled at the request of individual justices.
The salary for the 2012-2013 court year will be $63,175.86.
Each candidate must submit in paper form: (1) a current resume; (2) an official law school transcript; (3) a writing sample not to exceed ten pages and not edited by another; and (4) two letters of recommendation, at least one of which should be from a law school faculty member. A single cover letter should be addressed to The Justices of the Supreme Judicial Court. The candidate should arrange to have the law school send an official transcript directly to the Hiring Coordinator. The applicant may submit an unofficial transcript with the resume and writing sample. Letters of recommendation may be sent after the candidate's initial submission of materials, but the candidate might not be considered until the letters are received.
All materials should be sent to Pamela B. Lyons, Esq., Hiring Coordinator, Supreme Judicial Court, Suite 2500, John Adams Courthouse, One Pemberton Square, Boston, Massachusetts 02108
pamela.lyons@sjc.state.ma.us. A single paper copy of the materials is sufficient. Questions may also be directed by telephone at 617-557-1071.
The Supreme Judicial Court is an equal opportunity employer and encourages all interested persons to apply.
(Please Note: All clerkships for the 2012-2013 term have been filled.)
