Honorable Karyn F. Scheier Reappointed Chief Justice of the Land Court by Chief Justice for Administration & Management Robert A. Mulligan

 

    Chief Justice for Administration & Management Robert A. Mulligan today announced the reappointment of Chief Justice Karyn F. Scheier to the Land Court for a five-year term, in accordance with G.L. c211B, §5. Chief Justice Scheier first was named Chief Justice in 2003 and has served the Land Court since 1994.     Chief Justice Mulligan said, "I am very pleased to announce the reappointment of Chief Justice Karyn Scheier. Under her leadership the Land Court has introduced more numerous and substantive reforms than at any other time in the court's history. She is highly regarded by Land Court judges, administrators and practitioners for her tremendous work ethic and thoughtful, collaborative style. Her extensive experience, integrity and commitment to public service greatly benefit the Trial Court."

    Chief Justice Scheier said, "It has been my honor to work with the judges, Recorder, and staff of the Land Court during the past five years. Together and with guidance from the real estate bar, we have embraced new ways to meet the challenges of an active court with statewide jurisdiction.

    "I also am privileged to participate with Chief Justice Mulligan and the Trial Court departmental chiefs, as we continue our work on court-wide initiatives to improve the timely and fair delivery of justice."

    The Land Court Department has seven authorized judicial positions and statewide jurisdiction. It is based in Boston but holds quarterly meetings in Worcester and Fall River, as well as other locations throughout the Commonwealth. The Massachusetts Trial Court includes seven court departments with 379 judges who deliver justice in 106 courthouses across the state. Comprehensive management reform is underway in the courts to increase efficiency, accountability and transparency in this large, complex organization that delivers access to justice to thousands of people daily.
