AIS Reporting

If you think you have identified a NEW Aquatic Invasive Species, take a picture and report it. By reporting your sighting you will provide important information to the AIS reporting network.

Be sure to use species identification resources for marine species developed by CZM. Some important outside resources for freshwater identification can be found on our links/resources page.

AIS Sighting Submission Form

The AIS Sighting Submission Form is an online form for reporting a new non-indigenous species introduction in Massachusetts. It is the single stop for citizens, field monitors, fishermen, or anyone else who would like to report an unfamiliar species, and can be used to report freshwater, marine, plant or animal species. The form is designed to facilitate the early detection and reporting of AIS to the Massachusetts AIS Reporting Network. Rapid reporting is key to promoting a rapid response to new introductions. After providing your contact information and the location and date of your sighting, you can upload a photo. The reporting form is a collaborative effort of the AIS Working Group and is hosted by our partners at MIT Sea Grant.

Massachusetts AIS Reporting Network

The Massachusetts AIS Reporting Network is designed to provide a quick reference for taxonomic questions and easy access to primary contacts when potential AIS are detected. The individuals in the reporting network have taxonomic expertise in the listed categories. These individuals also represent their respective state agencies in the AIS Working Group, which coordinates any rapid response or control effort.

The Massachusetts AIS Reporting Network is also a part of a national taxonomic expert directory. Visit the Aquatic Nuisance Species Task Force Experts Directory.
