Rapid Response

In many cases, once an AIS becomes established eradication is impossible or cost-prohibitive. Consequently, the AIS Management Plan calls for the development of a rapid response protocol for the eradication of newly established AIS to address this challenge. Key components that have been developed to date include:

• AIS Reporting - Helps streamline detection efforts and initiate a rapid response.

• Species Evaluation Questionnaire - Developed by CZM to assess the impacts and manageability of AIS.

• Control Methods for Select Aquatic Nuisance Species - Designed to assist with the implementation of a rapid response .

• Monitoring efforts - Inform scientists and resource managers about AIS population dynamics and new introductions.

These components of a rapid response protocol are based on work by the Northeast Aquatic Nuisance Species Panel.
