Enforcement in No Discharge Areas

It is a violation of federal law to discharge treated or untreated boat sewage within the waters of a No Discharge Area (NDA). The Massachusetts Environmental Police are charged with enforcing the restrictions of NDAs in the Commonwealth.

Amendments have been proposed to Massachusetts General Law 90B Sections 11 and 14 that will allow state and local enforcement authorities to collect fines of up to $2000 for violations within NDAs.
