Coastal Training Program
The Massachusetts Coastal Training Program (MCTP) is part of the National Estuarine Research Reserve (NERR) system-wide program to provide training and technical assistance to coastal decision-makers to foster sound science-based coastal management. Coastal decision-makers are those individuals who make decisions that affect the health of the coast in their day-to-day professional or volunteer lives, and include coastal and land use managers; municipal, state, and federal government officials; non-profit organization personnel; and local business people. Training may take the form of seminars, hands-on skill training, participatory workshops, lectures, field trips, or technology demonstrations. The MCTP is coordinated by a Steering Committee composed of the Massachusetts Office of Coastal Zone Management, Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve, and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution's Sea Grant Program. Issue areas and training topics include habitat protection and restoration, nutrient loading and eutrophications, watershed management, climate change and renewable energy, and docks and piers management.
