Summer Family Programs
The Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR) offers programs for groups of adults and children as an introduction to different aspects of the estuary system. Programs are generally one to three hours long and take place outdoors at one of the component sites of the Reserve, including programs for campers at Washburn Island. The family programs are presented by the Interpretive Naturalist or Island Managers, who develop the programs based on research information and always include activities and nature study. Some topics are: endangered piping plovers, algae blooms and their causes, and salt marsh creatures. There is also a week-long science program for ages 7-11 and a special science school session for girls ages 12-14. Information about these programs is available in the summer newsletter and at www.waquoitbayreserve.org during the spring and summer.
