108Site ID:EssexTown:6.4Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of ~6 acres of salt marsh upstream of the Choate Island causeway connecting Long Island with Choate Island. A culvert of unknown size and condition is located beneath the causeway. The site and property is owned by the Trustees of Reservations. TTOR staff have indicated that this culvert may restrict tidal flow to the upstream marsh, which also receives tidal influence from a tidal creek flowing unobstructed from the west. A site visit was not conducted. A tidal survey is needed to determine whether the existing culvert restricts tidal exchange with the upstream marsh. If a restriction is documented, restoration actions would replace the existing culvert with a larger pipe to allow for full tidal exchange to the upstream marsh. Restoration potential is considered low based on the uncertainty regarding whether the marsh is restricted. See also site #110 that also encompases this location as a potential fill removal project.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
