397Site ID:EssexTown:0.1Acres:NoRapid Technical Site Assessment:RestrictionFillAgricultureOtherCompleted ProjectLowPriority:Site consists of an old earthen berm across the marsh and tidal creek on the Cogswell Island property. The tidal creek flows freely through the berm and does not appear to be restricted. Vegetation and marsh condition are visually distinct upstream and downstream of the dike when viewed in aerial photos. It is unknown whether this difference was caused by prior conditions when the upstream marsh was likely diked off from tidal flow. The berm is ~1-3 feet above the marsh grade and ~6 feet wide. Approximately 5,000 s.f. of fill remains on the marsh surface. Restoration actions would remove the berm fill material from the marsh surface. This would bring back healthy marsh conditions in the berm area and enhance tidal sheet flow across the marsh surface. Restoration potential is considered low based on the relatively small area of opportunity. Potential is increased by the likely ability to re-located the material on the property, avoiding hauling costs. The Mosquito Control District may be well-suited to conduct this restoration work.Site Summary:Under DevelopmentImpact Type(s)StatusPotential Project
