Revised Open Meeting Law gives Attorney General jurisdiction, takes effect July 1, 2010
Statement from the Office of the Norfolk District Attorney
As part of “An Act to Improve the Laws Relating to Campaign Finance, Ethics and Lobbying,” the Open Meeting Law was revised effective July 1, 2010. See Chapter 28 of the Acts of 2009, §§17-20 . The revised Open Meeting Law will appear at General Laws, Chapter 30A, §§18-25.
One change in the revised Open Meeting Law centralizes enforcement authority in the Attorney General’s Office. As of July 1, 2010 all concerns regarding the Open Meeting Law should be directed to the Attorney’s General’s Office and not to the various district attorneys.
More information regarding the revised Open Meeting Law can be found on the Attorney General’s website at www.mass.gov/ago/openmeeting.
