Prosecution Home

The Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office is responsible for the prosecution of criminal offenses that occur within the twenty-seven cities and towns of the county. http://norfolkcounty.org/index.cfm?pid=10204

With a staff of approximately 120 people, we work with the court and law enforcement communities every day to prosecute nearly 20,000 cases a year in the towns comprising Norfolk District.  These cases involve homicide, sexual assault, domestic violence, robbery, drug sales and possession, fraud, theft, driving under the influence of alcohol and other drugs, and many other offenses.

The vast majority of these criminal cases are prosecuted in either five district courtsand three juvenile courts located throughout the county.  Many serious crimes are presented to a grand jury for indictment into Superior Court. We also make appropriate and effective use of alternative punishment and rehabilitation options for first-time offenders of lesser crimes.

Under Commonwealth of Massachusetts law, all criminal cases brought to prosecution must be handled by the Office of the District Attorney or the Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General.
