Chief of the Appellate Unit

The Plymouth County District Attorney's Office is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as Chief of the Appellate Unit.

The Appellate Unit is currently comprised of ( 9 ) Assistant District Attorneys, assigned to represent the office in all post-conviction matters in Plymouth County.   The Appellate Unit Chief manages and supervises the work of the Appellate Unit.

The Chief is an Assistant District Attorney who represents the Commonwealth in accordance with the District Attorney's statutory authority in the various courts in Plymouth County, the Supreme Judicial Court, the Supreme Judicial Court for Plymouth County, the Appeals Court and courts in other counties.

The Chief is an employee of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and serves at the pleasure of the District Attorney.   The Chief's position is covered under the provisions of G.L. c. 268B.


Qualifications include a minimum of 10 years' experience with substantial appellate experience, including written and oral advocacy, as well as trial/litigation and managerial experience.   The desired candidate will possess a minimum of 5 years of a proven and demonstrated track record of leading a successful team of attorneys.   Must have experience on a senior management team.   Must be able to display recent, relevant management experience to include all personnel subjects such as but not limited to, performance management and unit efficiency, time management, work load and assignments, employee training and development, employee engagement and general supervision.   Position requires excellent communication skills and the ability to foster a positive, collaborative working environment.
