WORK EXPRESSBrockton Weed and Seed has developed a partnership with the Work Express program at Mainspring House.
Work Express is a six month to one year sobriety program for homeless and addicted individuals. Members of Work Express do paid labor in the community for four hours a day, five days a week. They reside at MainSpring House. Thirty percent of their income is saved for the future. Addiction support groups and life skill classes are required elements of the program, as well as daily journals. During the member's stay in the program, a sponsor, health benefits, and a counselor are obtained. Members who are a part of Work Express for five months without violation are eligible to move into a YMCA single room, and then on to a shared apartment. As a Weed and Seed partner, Work Express will clean vacant lots in the new Campello area. Research suggests that vacant and abandon lots are breeding grounds for crime. In addition, they are an eye-sore for residents forced to live nearby. This program will help improve the quality of life by reducing the number of places for crime to occur and by keeping Brockton’s neighborhoods beautiful. ![]() |
