DORCHESTER TEEN INDICTED FOR FRIEND’S SLAYING

March 11, 2008

A Suffolk County Grand Jury today returned indictments charging a 17-year-old youth for allegedly shooting his friend in the head while toying with a loaded handgun, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced.

The indictment charges RASHARD MONROE (D.O.B. 4/20/90) with manslaughter, unlawfully carrying a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition, all in connection with the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Kendell Floyd in a Wainwright Street residence on the afternoon of Feb. 11.

Floyd had turned 17 a week earlier. His death came the same day that another teenager – ENRIQUE BAEZ (D.O.B. 4/27/89) of Jamaica Plain – was sentenced to state prison for accidentally killing his friend in another accident.

Another person present when Floyd was killed called 911, summoning Boston Police and emergency medical technicians who transported the mortally wounded teen to Boston Medical Center. He was pronounced dead of his injury at the hospital.

Boston Police homicide detectives responded to the scene and undertook an investigation that continued throughout the day. After collecting evidence and conducting multiple interviews, they identified, located, and interviewed Monroe, who allegedly made incriminating statements indicating that he did not mean to shoot the victim. Monroe is said to have expressed remorse over his actions.

Monroe is expected to be arraigned in Suffolk Superior Court later this week. He is represented by attorney Shira Diner.
