TWO CHARGED IN WEEKEND ATTACKS April 14, 2008 Two men charged in separate weekend attacks in Revere and Chelsea were held on high bail following their arraignments this afternoon in Chelsea District Court, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced. Prosecutors recommended that JAKEEM GONSALVES, 29 (D.O.B. 3/19/79), be held on $100,000 and that his open bail on a pending Roxbury case be revoked in light of his arrest early Saturday morning for allegedly taking part in a brawl in the parking lot of a Revere nightclub. District Court Judge Timothy Gailey set bail at $10,000 – the amount posted by Gonsalves following his arrest – and declined to revoke his existing bail. Evidence suggests that Gonsalves was one of several men who attacked and beat members of another group in the parking lot of Club Caravan shortly after midnight Saturday morning. Witnesses identified Gonsalves as taking part in beating one of the victim, but not taking part in the stabbing of two victims that followed the fisticuffs. One stabbing victim was so badly injured that State Police homicide detectives were called in to lead the investigation. That victim survived his injuries, and troopers will continue to assist Revere Police as the probe unfolds. Also arraigned today was a 51-year-old Chelsea man accused of attempted murder for a stabbing another man outside a Chelsea tavern. Prosecutors recommended that DUNG TRAN (D.O.B. 5/8/56) be held on half a million dollars cash bail and be ordered to stay away from the victim; Judge Sarah Singer set bail at $50,000 and adopted the stay away order. Evidence suggests that Tran and the victim had an altercation in the men’s room of the Chelsea Walk Pub in which the victim punched Tran in the face. Tran allegedly left the scene and returned with other men and a large knife, stabbing the victim five times in various locations as they stood outside the establishment. Tran was standing outside the bar nursing a scrape to his head when police arrived. He was taken into custody at the scene. Gonsalves was represented by attorney Barry Wilson and will return to court on May 29. Tran was represented by attorney Richard Barrett and will return to court on May 12.
