STATE POLICE INVESTIGATING FATAL STATE PARK SHOOTING

April 21, 2008

State Police homicide detectives assigned to Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley’s Office are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred at the Southwest Corridor park in Jamaica Plain late this afternoon.

The 20-year-old male victim was transported to Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of his injuries a short time later. His identity is being withheld pending family notifications.

State and Boston police were notified of the shooting, which took place at approximately 4:00 at a basketball court in a Department of Conservation and Recreation park near Lamartine Street. Because the incident took place on state property, State Police are leading the investigation.

“The investigation is very active,” Conley said. “As always, we will follow the evidence wherever it leads us, and we urge anyone with knowledge of this incident to come forward.”

Individuals with knowledge the incident are urged to call the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817.
