DA, INVESTIGATORS SEEK ASSISTANCE IN CHELSEA STABBING April 9, 2008 Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley, Chelsea Police Chief Brian Kyes, and State Police homicide detectives this week urged anyone with knowledge of the fatal stabbing of Luis Garcia-Calle to come forward and assist them in their investigation into the incident. “Even just a small piece of information could help us crack this case and bring some comfort to Luis’ family,” Conley said. “We urge anyone to come forward, even anonymously, if they have any information at all about the incident.” Chelsea Police and emergency medical personnel responded to El Carriel, a tavern on Williams Street, shortly after midnight on Feb. 27 to find Garcia-Calle suffering from life-threatening stab wounds. The 22-year-old East Boston man was rushed to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he underwent multiple surgeries before finally succumbing to his injuries on March 17. “We definitely need the public's assistance in helping us solve this tragic homicide,” Kyes said. “Serious violent crimes such are this one are most often local in nature, making local knowledge and information subsequently derived from individual community members who are willing to assist state and local law enforcement the key to both identifying and apprehending those responsible as well as contributing to a successful prosecution.” The ongoing investigation has yielded a description of the assailant as a 20- to 30-year-old Salvadoran male, approximately 5’5” inches tall, with almond-shaped eyes and black hair. He was last seen running up Division Street away from the scene wearing a white knit cap, a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans, and work boots. Anyone with information on that individual’s identity, or who can shed light on the events leading to Garcia-Calle’s death, is urged to call the Chelsea Police tip line, which provides prompts in both English and Spanish, at 617-466-4880 or the Suffolk County State Police Detective Unit at 617-727-8817. Callers may remain anonymous if they wish, but may also leave their names and call-back numbers.
