DORCHESTER MAN CONVICTED ON DRUG, WEAPON CHARGES May 2, 2008 A 21-year-old man who was arrested last year with 13 small plastic bags of marijuana and a gun, was convicted of all charges and was sentenced yesterday to serve five years in prison to be followed by another five years of probation, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced. After a trial on Wednesday, district court jurors in the Firearms Priority Disposition Sessions – commonly known as Gun Court - deliberated for several hours yesterday before finding TRISTON JULES (D.O.B. 9/17/86) guilty of seven counts including possession of a loaded firearm, unlawfully carrying a firearm, possession of ammunition, possession of a Class D substance, possession with intent to distribute a Class D substance, possession of a Class D substance in the area of a school or park, and indecent exposure. Boston Municipal Court Judge Eleanor Coe Sinnott sentenced Jules to serve five years in the House of Correction, to be followed by five years of probation. As part of the terms of his probation, he must stay away from the Greenfield Road area of Mattapan and must submit to random drug tests. “There is no place for guns on the streets of Boston,” Conley said. “The verdict in this case and the subsequent sentence imposed on this defendant sends a strong message that we will not tolerate illegal guns in our communities.” During the trial, Assistant District Attorney Marjorie Pauleon presented evidence and testimony showing that at about 9 p.m. on April 27, 2007, Boston Police officers were doing a routine patrol of the Greenfield Road area in Mattapan, when they noticed the defendant and two other men standing around a motor vehicle. Officers observed Jules repeatedly reaching towards his waist area, adjusting something. Police officers continued their patrol, looping around again to observe the defendant, who had by this time walked behind 166 Greenfield Rd., where he was urinating on a fence. When officers approached him, they saw a loaded .22 caliber revolver on the ground within five feet of the defendant, and a large plastic bag containing five small, individually wrapped plastic bags of marijuana. Following Jules’ arrest, police officers found an additional eight individually wrapped bags of marijuana on his person. Jules was represented by attorney Edward Counihan.
