FORMER LINEBACKER INDICTED ON DRUG TRAFFICKING CHARGES Aug. 10, 2007 A Suffolk County Grand Jury yesterday returned indictments charging a former Boston College football standout with drug distribution after an investigation that included multiple controlled buys from the man at his Brighton apartment, Suffolk County District Attorney Daniel F. Conley announced. The indictments charge RAYMOND HENDERSON, 23 (D.O.B. 8/20/83), with trafficking in more than 14 grams of cocaine and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. “Once again, we see that illegal drugs are not an inner-city problem or a low-income problem,” Conley said. “Here was a young man with every advantage and a promising future who will now pay a heavy price for dealing illegal, addictive substances in direct violation of state law.” After obtaining strong evidence that a man named “Ray” was dealing drugs out of 29 Sutherland Road, members of the Boston Police Department’s Drug Control Unit obtained a search warrant for Henderson’s apartment on May 17. When the officers knocked on the door shortly before 6:00 p.m., Henderson answered the door and identified himself as “Ray.” In the search that followed, officers recovered a large bag of cocaine; 10 bags of marijuana in various sizes; two bags containing a substance believed to be psychoactive mushrooms; several bags containing marijuana residue; a large quantity of cocaine paraphernalia including razor blades, bags, and spoons with cocaine residue; and approximately $3600 in cash. Recovered in close proximity to the drugs were personal papers and other items belonging to Henderson, indicating that he had access to and control over them. Henderson, who had no prior record and hails from Cresskill, New Jersey, was cooperative with the officers’ efforts and directed them to many of the drugs recovered. After being read his Miranda rights, Henderson allegedly made a statement that “My roommates have nothing to do with this. Everything in this apartment is mine.” Henderson was initially charged in the Brighton Division of the Boston Municipal Court Department, where he posted the $5,000 cash bail set at his May 18 arraignment. On June 25, he was arrested again after being stopped for speeding and officers recovered a small amount of cocaine in his possession. He was charged with an additional count of possession of a class B substance, his open bail was subsequently revoked, and he is currently being held without bail. Henderson’s indictment moves his case to Suffolk Superior Court, where it will be adjudicated. His arraignment date there has not been set. He is represented by attorney Aviva Jeruchim.
