Distracted Driving- National Driving Statistics for 15-20 year olds





According to a 2006 report by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for 15-20 year olds.

  • Young drivers, age 15-20 account for 6.4 percent, (13.0 million), of the total licensed drivers in the United States.   


  • In 2006, 12.9 percent, (7,463), of all the drivers involved in fatal crashes were between
    15 and 20 years old.


  • In 2006, 25 percent of young drivers (ages 15-20) who were killed in crashes had blood alcohol concentration (BAC) levels of .08 or higher at the time of the crash.
