CAC PROGRAMS AND SERVICES

The Children's Advocacy Center of Suffolk County brings together child-serving agencies from throughout Suffolk County to coordinate services and improve our response to child abuse. The CAC is the "link" connecting these agencies. Together, we provide the following programs and services:

Multi-disciplinary (MDT) Investigative Teams: MDT team investigations allow for a prompt, sensitive, interagency response to reports of child sexual abuse and serious physical abuse. The CAC MDT provides extensive suppportive and follow-up services to children and their families.

Forensic Interviews: Most child abuse investigations require an interview of the child. In an effort to limit the number of times that a child will need to be interviewed, the CAC coordinates a single interview of the child. Specially trained Interviewers conduct interviews in a sensitive and legally sound manner. MDT Team members observe the interview from behind a one-way mirror.

Case Review:The CAC conducts regular Case Review meetings to review case status and insure that each child and family receives needed services.

Medical Services:CAC partner agencies include hospitals, health centers and other medical providers with specialized services for child victims of abuse. The MDT Team makes referrals to medical specialists for evaluations and/or treatment.

Mental Health Services:The CAC Mental Health Program connects child abuse victims and their families with community-based trauma specialists. Clinicians provide expert mental health consultation to professionals on the multidisciplinary team and assist with referrals for evaluation and treatment.

Domestic Violence Services:Often, when child abuse is reported, domestic violence may also be occurring in the home. The CAC offers risk assessment, safety planning, supportive services and referrals to help keep children and families safe.

Training & Community Education:The CAC's Training Program provides education and training about child abuse, the multidisciplinary model of investigation and intervention, as well as topic-specific training on a number of child abuse-related issues. Our trainers include professionals from CAC partner agencies representing diverse disciplines, each with a wealth of knowledge and experience.
