Middlesex Fells Trail System Plan
DCR's Greenways and Trails Program has initiated a trail system planning process for the Middlesex Fells Reservation.
This plan will considers the whole trail system at the Middlesex Fells, provide guidance for short and long-term management of these trail assets, set priorities for allocating limited staff and financial resources, identify stewardship partners and opportunities, and function as both a stand-alone trails plan and component of a future Resource Management Plan.
Over the next several months, DCR will be completing an inventory of all the roads and trails in the Fells; identifying key scenic, natural and cultural resources; and making recommendations regarding trail closures, new trails, restoration, trail use, education and policies.
Stakeholders and users of the Fells are invited to provide input into this process via comment over the internet and through a one-day “trail planning workshop” to be hosted in February.
The draft trail plan is anticipated to be completed by April of 2010.
