WHAT’S NEW IN MA STATE PARK CAMPING
FOR 2012
Mohawk Trail State Forest
New for the 2012 season, Mohawk Trail State Forest now offers a car-free camping experience. The Great Pines car-free camping area is nestled in a section of the campground where Eastern White Pine trees have been recorded at 150 feet tall and up to 200 years old! To provide a car-free camping experience while protecting this unique resource, vehicles will be prohibited from this area. A parking area is provided with a short walk to the campsites.
Additionally, Mohawk Trail State Forest now has three small group campsites in addition to the large group site. The small group campsites provide an opportunity for a minimum of 10 people and a maximum of 15 people to share the same space while visiting beautiful Mohawk Trail State Forest. The fee for the group sites is $25 per night.
Outside Firewood Prohibited
MA State Parks prohibits the transportation of firewood into or out of MA State Park Campground facilities. Firewood is available at the contact station for $5 per bundle or $10 for 3 bundles. Pricing may vary at parks with campstores. MA State Forests and Parks are at risk of severe damage from invasive species such as the Asian Longhorned Beetle and the Emerald Ash Borer. Invasive species have devastated forests in the US Midwest, and have recently been found in the Worcester and Boston, MA areas. Once a forest is infested, eradication of an invasive pest involves devastating measures such as the removal of entire stands of trees or forested areas. Leave firewood at home and get firewood at the campground only. Help us protect your forests and parks by not transporting firewood. For more information go to: www.mass.gov/dcr

Primitive Camping - Get Away From It All!
We appreciate that some of our customers are looking for a car-free camping experience. Keeping it simple, our primitive camping areas do not offer fresh water, flush toilets or showers. Reservations may be made for a $6 nightly fee for MA residents and $8 for non-residents at the following primitive hike-in and island campgrounds:
- Boston Harbor Islands State Park, Boston (Peddocks Island reopens to camping late season 2012)
- Federated Women’s Club State Forest, Petersham (Please contact Erving SF at 978.544.3939)
- Mt. Greylock State Reservation, Lanesborough
- Mt. Washington State Forest, Mt. Washington (Not currently reservable. Please call 413.528.0330)
- Waquoit Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve (WBNERR) on Washburn Island, Falmouth
Campgrounds Closed in 2012
Massasoit State Park, Chester-Blandford State Forest and Windsor State Forest will be closed to camping for the 2012 season.
