November 7, 2008 DCR Timber Harvesting Directive
On November 7, 2008 DCR committed to limit the selling of timber sales posted on or
after July 1, 2008 within the Eastern Connecticut Valley, Mid-State, Northeast and
Southeast Forest Management District until Forest Resource Management Plans are
completed and approved by the DCR Stewardship Council and Commissioner.
The following exceptions to this policy include:
- Harvesting projects posted prior to July 1, 2008.
- Harvesting necessary in order to provide access for public safety and potential medical emergencies.
- Harvesting necessary to address public safety hazards/hazardous trees.
- Harvesting to mitigate fuel loading/fire risk as identified by DCR Forest Fire Control or a local fire chief.
- Harvesting necessary to achieve ecological restoration.
- Emergency declared by the Commissioner with notification to the Stewardship
Council.
- Harvesting for home fuelwood to be directly removed by homeowners.
DCR shall notify the DCR Stewardship Council of all exceptions prior to
implementation.
