The Office of Dam Safety maintains records of dams located throughout the Commonwealth, ensures compliance with acceptable practices pertaining to dam inspection, maintenance, operation and repair of dams. Rainfall Data

Monthly Precipitation Composite: DCR precipitation data are used to calculate a composite of precipitation conditions in six regions plus a statewide composite.
Water Conditions: Current Water conditions reports describe precipitation trends, dry periods, high or low river flow conditions, ground water levels, and review the current water year. State Hazard Mitigation Plan

The Massachusetts State Hazard Mitigation Plan provides both short-term and long-term strategies for implementing hazard mitigation measures by state agencies as well as local municipalities throughout the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This plan accomplishes this by identifying actions that will lower the risks and lower the costs of natural hazards.

For additional information on the plan, contact Richard Zingarelli, State Hazard Mitigation Officer, at 617-626-1406.

Windsor State Forest
Williamsburg (413) 684-0948

Until further notice, the swimming area at Windsor State Forest will be closed. The dam in the area is being evaluated.

Off-Road Vehicle trails in state forests
closed until further notice

Due to the record rainfall received in the state and saturated trail conditions, the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has temporarily closed designated trails for Off-Road Vehicle (ORV) use in Beartown State Forest, October Mountain State Forest, Pittsfield State Forest, Tolland State Forest, F. Gilbert Hills State Forest, Freetown-Fall River State Forest and Georgetown-Rowley State Forest until conditions improve. Riding an ORV on wet trails can cause significant trail damage. For more information on each riding area, maps, directions and contact number visit www.mass.gov/dcr/forparks.htm. When conditions improve, the trails will be re-opened and notice will be given through local newspapers, and DCR website.

All other state forests, parks and reservations are closed to ORV use at all times. Off-road vehicle use is defined as any motor vehicle designed for recreational use off a public way, legally registered and under 1000 lbs. For registration information please visit www.mass.gov/dfwele/dle/elereg.htm.
