STATE TO HOLD PUBLIC MEETING ON

MOUNT GREYLOCK HISTORIC PARKWAY PROJECT

The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) announced they will be holding a public presentation on the Mount Greylock State Reservation Historic Parkway Rehabilitation project at the Mount Greylock Advisory Council meeting on Thursday, January 25, 2007.  The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., and will be held at the Mount Greylock State Reservation Visitor Center, located on Rockwell Road in Lanesborough.  All parties interested in learning more about the rehabilitation project and operation plans for the Mount Greylock State Reservation during construction are encouraged to attend.

The goal of the project is to rehabilitate Mount Greylock State Reservation’s 13.7-mile historic parkway system, completed in 1939 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, in a manner that properly addresses safety, recreation, conservation and historic landscape preservation issues.

DCR also announced that it has executed the contract for the project with J.H. Maxymillian, Inc. of Pittsfield for a total bid price of just over $14 million.  DCR issued a Notice to Proceed on January 16, 2007.
