The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) is inviting all interested parties to attended a four-day interactive community planning workshop, designed to help DCR develop a vision for the parkways of the Middlesex Fells Reservation. DCR also intends to use the information gathered through this process as the basis for its further review of the Langwood Commons project, a proposed mixed-use development project on the site of the former Boston Regional Medical Center on Woodland Road. This review is part of DCR’s broader efforts to protect the historic character of its parkways throughout the Commonwealth, which have included the development of Historic Parkway Preservation Treatment Guidelines.
“Through this planning process, DCR seeks to develop a vision for the Fells parkways that reduces traffic impacts to the Reservation and readily accommodates non-motorized parkway uses,” said DCR Commissioner Stephen H. Burrington. “Developing and implementing this vision is important, both for the Fells and its neighbors, irrespective of any proposed development projects.”
The workshops will be funded by the developer of the Langwood Commons project, the Gutierrez Company of Burlington, but will be run entirely by DCR and its consultant team, which includes Glatting Jackson Kercher Anglin, a national leader in the field of context-sensitive transportation design, and Rizzo Associates of Framingham.
