Trails and Greenways connect DCR’s parks, forests, reservations, and beaches to the people and recreation that they enjoy. Trails within our parks are not individual pathways, but components of an integrated recreational system or network. These trail system assets are integral to the activities, services, and resources DCR manages.
In Trails System planning, DCR aims to highlight ecological, scenic, and cultural features within DCR facilities; provide specific, enjoyable recreational experiences to users; and connect to important trail corridors, destinations, and population centers both within and outside of our properties. DCR looks to achieve these goals in a manner that avoids sensitive areas, meets user expectations, and minimizes ecological impacts and maintenance requirements.
