A beautiful place to view fall foliage, Clarksburg State Park offers 368 acres of abundant and unspoiled northern hardwood forest with breathtaking views of the Hoosac Range, Mount Greylock and the Green Mountains.
Scenic Mauserts Pond has a landscaped day-use area featuring swimming, picnicking, fishing, and a pavilion area. The pond is surrounded by 9.5 miles of foot trails along which visitors may observe a variety of wildlife, and perhaps a moose. The 3 mile Pond Loop Trail is popular with birdwatchers, and the very easy Shoreline Trail has beautiful water views. 45 well-spaced and wooded campsites are located near the lake, featuring a modern comfort station with showers.
Clarksburg State Forest, located 3 miles west of Clarksburg State Park, is a 3,011-acre tract. This undisturbed forest land is popular with hunters and hikers. 4.5 miles of Appalachian Trail passes through the forest into Vermont and the Green Mountain National Forest. Wilderness camping is available at 3 designated sites along the AT. Please inquire about access and recreational opportunities.

Things to know before you go…
- The park is open from sunrise to one half-hour after sunset, year-round. Facilities are available from Memorial Day through Columbus Day, and a $5 parking fee applies. Parking is free for ParksPass holders, vehicles with Handicapped, POW, disabled veteran plates/placard, and seniors 62 and above with the Massachusetts Senior Pass.
- Camping season: is from mid-May to mid-October. Campground office hours are from 8am-6pm on weekdays, and 8am-midnight on weekends. Reservations are suggested
- Universally Accessible campsites and comfort station are available. Reservations are suggested.
- A pavilion is available for events. Reservations are suggested. Please call for information.
- Unguarded Swimming is available at designated beach area on Mauserts Pond.
- Pets are permitted. Must be on a 10 foot maximum leash. Proof of current Rabies vaccination is required. Please be courteous and clean up after your pet: Mutt Mitts are available.
- Boat Launch is available for non-motorized boats. Stop aquatic hitchhikers; please ensure that your boat and equipment are clean before launching.
- Prohibited: Motorized off-road vehicles and alcoholic beverages.
Park Directions
Clarksburg State Forest is located in the northern Berkshires
in western Massachusetts.
From the East/I-91: From I-91 take Exit 26 in Greenfield and follow MA Rte. 2 west for 34 miles to North Adams, to intersection with MA Rte. 8 north. Turn right and follow Rte. 8 north for 3 miles to Middle Road. Turn left onto Middle Rd. and continue for 0.1 mile to park entrance on right.
From South, East or West/MassPike (I-90): Take Exit 2 in Lee and follow US Rte. 20 west to US Rte. 7 north to Williamstown for 31.7 miles. Take MA Rte. 2 east for 6.2 miles, through downtown North Adams, to MA Rte. 8. Turn left and follow Rte. 8 north for 3 miles to Middle Road. Turn left onto Middle Rd. and continue for 0.1 mile to park entrance on right.
From North/Vermont: Take VT/MA Rte. 8 south from the Massachusetts-Vermont line for 0.5 mile. Turn right onto Middle Rd. and continue for 0.1 mile to park entrance on right.
