Location
The Craigie bridges carry Route 28 between Cambridge and Boston. The Dam Bridge lies directly under the roadway in Cambridge, adjacent to the Museum of Science parking garage, and carries Cambridge traffic that is heading to or from the Drawbridge.
Craigie Dam Bridge Project Scope
Replace all damaged and deteriorated structural members and remove temporary shoring that is currently in place. Reconstruct bridge deck at the curb line and the existing sidewalks. The pedestrian walkway on the southwest side of the bridge (adjacent to the Museum of Science) will be widened to accommodate pedestrians and bicycles.
Craigie Drawbridge Project Scope
Demolish the existing superstructure, and provide a temporary bridge structure to carry traffic. Repair substructure and modify as required to accept new superstructure. Install new superstructure and solid bridge deck, which will provide better weathering protection for machinery and comfort of vehicular and pedestrian traffic. Replace all machinery components and electrical components
Phasing
To minimize the disturbance to vehicular traffic caused by construction, the work required to repair the Craigie Dam Bridge will not be performed during the same time periods as the Craigie Drawbridge work. Construction work will be phased maintaining two directions of traffic along the Charles River Dam Roadway at all times.
