Western Massachusetts

Beartown State Forest, Monterey

  • Camping Season: Beartown State Forest is open all year round for camping. Main season is late May to early September, reservations encouraged.
  • Off season camping available. Contact the park before travelling to check weather conditions.

Clarksburg State Park, Clarksburg

D.A.R. State Forest, Goshen

  • Group Camping: 1 site. Accommodates 50 people maximum.
  • Wheelchair Access: Accessible toilets shower, hiking, canoeing.
  • Camping Season: DAR State Forest is open all year round for camping. Main season is early May to mid October. Between October and May campsites are available on a first-come basis only for group site tent camping only.  Unimproved toilets, no showers available off-season.  After snowfall, access to group site is by foot, snowmobile or skis (1½ miles from parking area). Must call park for site registration prior to arrival. Off season camping

Granville State Forest, Granville

Mohawk Trail State Forest, Charlemont

  • Year-round Cabins: 6 sites. 4 cabins accommodate 4 people or one family, 2 cabins accommodate 3 people.  Pets are prohibited from cabins and cabin sites.
  • Group Camping: 4 sites.  1 large site, 50 person maximum; 3 small sites.
  • Main Camping Season: early May to mid-October. Cabin camping available year round by reservation only, call 877-422-6762 to make a reservation.

Mt. Greylock State Reservation, Lanesborough

  • Camping Services and Amenities: 27 campsites. Hike in car-free car-free camping only.  The primitive camping area is accessible by a strenuous 2.5 mile hike from the base of the mountain, or a moderate 1.5 mile hike from a parking area on the mountain road. Unimproved toilets, picnic tables, and fireplaces available. No showers or hookups.
  • Group Camping: 7 group sites. Accommodates 12 person maximum. Reservations required.
  • Camping Season: late May to mid-October. Off season camping may be available, dependent upon snow accumulation.  Please contact park for more information.

Mount Washington State Forest, Mt. Washington

  • Camping Services and Amenities: 8 campsites.  Hike in, car-free camping only. The primitive back country camping area is accessible by a moderate 1.5 mile hike following the Alander Mountain Trail from the park headquarters parking lot trailhead.  Unimproved composting toilets, picnic tables, and fireplaces available.  No showers or hookups.  Leave No Trace outdoor ethics are strongly encouraged.  Camping and fires are permitted at designated areas only.
  • Camping Season: late May to mid-October, reservations encouraged.  Off-season camping is available mid-October to late May at no fee.  Campers must self-register at trailhead kiosk upon arrival. 

October Mountain State Forest,  Lenox

Pittsfield State Forest, Pittsfield
