Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grants

These grants are available to non-profit rural call or volunteer fire departments that primarily serve a community or city with a population of less than 10,000. The fire department must be made up of at least eighty percent (80%) call or volunteer firefighters and be recognized as a department under state law.

The VFA grant applications must be completed in full and received before June 3, 2013 to be considered for an award. Please submit your VFA grant application to:

Smokey Bear Wildfire Danger Rating Sign Program and Other Wildland Fire Prevention Signage

Forest Wardens … Use of the VFA purchased 2 foot square and the magnetic vehicle Smokey Bear Wildfire Danger rating signs will help keep your residents aware of the daily wildfire danger potential. Posting at your fire department or in a highly visible spot or where the public can pick up their open burn permit will increase community awareness and caution.

Other wildland fire prevention signage can be purchased for town/city forested areas.  Set up fees for signs have already been made by the DCR.  All Massachusetts Fire Departments are welcome to purchase.
