Please note that the following projects were completed by the former Department of Environmental Management. The projects below do not describe any projects completed by the former Metropolitan District Commission.

The following projects were completed in Fiscal Year 2002 ( July 1, 2001 – June 30, 2002 ). With the help of our partners, just over 11,385 acres of land were acquired or protected. DEM acquired most of these properties outright, through "fee acquisition." The remaining projects were protected through conservation restrictions (which essentially remove the right to develop a property).

The following six projects were part of the Department of Environmental Protection Aquifer Land Acquisition (DEP ALA) Program. This grant program provides partial reimbursements to municipalities and water commissions for their costs of acquiring land that will aid in the protection of water supply resources. The DEP ALA grant program requires a state agency to be granted a conservation restriction on property acquired. DEM worked with DEP, the following municipalities and water commissions to protect these critical properties:
