To dedicate the statue appropriately on National Public Lands Day, the Conservation Trust advanced the initial costs of this project. The Department of Conservation and Recreation’s Conservation Trust embarked on a campaign to raise funds for the purchase and installation of this 6-foot cast bronze CCC Worker’s Statue with accompanying 20” x 18” commemorative bronze plaque. The cost of this project was $25,000 and your financial assistance is needed. The Conservation Trust will match, dollar-for-dollar, up to $12,500, your donation to the CCC Worker’s Statue.* To date, more than $11,500 has been raised from CCC alumni, their family and friends, corporate donors, state employees and other supporters toward the $12,500 goal. We have less than $1,000 left to raise. Help us meet the goal!
Please join us in honoring the men who served in the CCC. We are grateful for any contribution you can make to honor the CCC workers and their lasting legacy of forest improvements and recreational resources. During the Depression, from 1933 to 1942, young men across America worked to improve forests and recreational resources as part of the Civilian Conservation Corps federal employment program. Facing harsh conditions, they planted forests, fought fires, built roads, campgrounds, picnic and swimming areas and constructed quality shelters, pavilions, lodges, bridges and dams. In Massachusetts, these 100,000 men who served over a period of nine years were among the first stewards of our state forests and parks system. Send your tax-deductible contribution to the CCC Worker’s Statue campaign (check made out to Commonwealth of Massachusetts/Conservation Trust – CCC Fund) For more information, call 617-626-1267.
