Accessible Beaches

 

Swimming, Sand and Sunbathing
Beach Wheelchairs are made of PVC pipe and feature an umbrella, fishing rod holder, a movable arm for transfer, and large balloon tires for travel across sand to the water. No fee to use – bring someone to push the chair. Reservations are sometimes required and always recommended.

* Self-Propellable Beach Wheelchairs offer the possibility of independent use for people with strong upper body ability. They feature an umbrella, ratcheting handles, and can also be used as a push chair.

Constructed wheelchair accessible site features include
Ashland State Park: Concrete platform with seating at water's edge. Steps and ramp, both with handrails, lead into water.
Bradley Palmer State Park: Gradual slope allows easy entry for wheel chair users at the wading pool.
Dunn State Park: Concrete ramp with steps and handrails allows wheelchair users to cross beach, transfer, and sit-step down into the water. New entryway soon to be constructed.
Erving State Forest: Ramp with handrails enables visitors who use wheelchairs to cross the beach and enter the lake. New entryway soon to be constructed.
Lake Wyola State Park: Boardwalk to bench at water’s edge with mat leading into water.
