QUABBIN DEER HUNT PERMITS DRAWN
Winning numbers for the 2009 Quabbin
Controlled Deer Hunt were drawn September 9th in a special lottery
at the Department of Conservation and
Licenses ending in these numbers were
drawn for hunting segments in Petersham, Hardwick,
Prescott and Pelham in the following order:
77, 76, 19, 11, 88, 16, 53, 31, 23,
12, 09, 27, 79, 62, 74, 43 04, 06, 47, 21, 41, 51, 61, 71, 81, 91, 86, 22, 42,
70, 66
Selected hunters listed by license number.
A total of 1,425 permits were
selected from an applicant pool of 1,786 eligible persons, with hunters
assigned to one of four segments scheduled for hunting this fall. Hunters were required to apply in groups,
with a minimum of two and a maximum of six hunters per application. The
selection process issued permits based upon the last digits of all hunting
licenses listed on the application. If a
license number was selected, all hunters on the application received permits
for that segment. Once selected, hunters
were then removed from the pool of applicants.
For the first time, hunters were able to rank the segments by preference
and the selection process assigned the segment based on these choices.
The Quabbin Controlled Deer Hunt is
an annual event conducted on Quabbin Reservoir watershed lands, implemented as
part of the management program to
maintain a balance between deer herd densities and forest regeneration.
All successful applicants will
receive written notification by early October.
