I would like to
* find out if the plants in my lake are non-invasive
* find out about the weed watchers program
* find contacts for key issues

The Lakes and Ponds Program is working with other state agencies and private groups to control invasive aquatic plants. We will train citizens to identify non-native aquatic plants; make available educational materials; and bring the latest scientific information on vegetation control to Massachusetts. You can order copies of a brochure with more information about invasive plants by contacting:

Jim Straub, 508 792-7716 ext 170

  • Remove all plant parts from your boat motor, trailer, anchors, fishing gear and dive gear. Dispose of plant matter above the waterline on dry land or in a trash can.
  • Dispose of live well, bait water and cooling water away from the shore after each use.
  • Wash your boat, preferably with hot water, and allow it to completely dry before entering another body of water.
  • Help spread the word and inform boaters and others about invasive plants.
  • Apply for a lake grant to help your lake.
  • Request a free "Stop the Spread of Invasive Weeds" sign for your boat ramp.
  • Familiarize yourself with invasive species by requesting one of our free color guides to invasive aquatic plants.
  • Join a weed monitoring group and help identify and eradicate new infestations in your lake before they become permanently established.
