DCR BEGINS CONSTRUCTION ON RIVER STREET BRIDGE

OVER MOTHER BROOK

During the work, traffic is limited to one-way, from Hyde Park toward Dedham

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has begun repairing the River Street Bridge, which carries River Street over Mother Brook between the Hyde Park and Readville neighborhoods of Boston. The work will include replacing the superstructure, with the exception of the existing fascia arches, which will be retained. Also, the approach walls will be repaired, and the cobblestone approach walls at the back of the sidewalk on both approaches will be rehabilitated.

Throughout the duration of the project, one-way traffic, from Cleary Square in Hyde Park toward Dedham, will be maintained. Vehicles traveling in the other direction, from Dedham to Hyde Park, will be detoured to Hyde Park Avenue. Emergency vehicles will be able to go in both directions. The new superstructure will be constructed from the roadway level and will not require staging from below. The work is expected to be completed next summer.

DAY BOULEVARD EASTBOUND PARTIALLY CLOSED

From K Street to L Street, South Boston

Tuesday, May 27, 2008

3:30 p.m., until further notice

The Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) has closed a small eastbound section of William J. Day Boulevard in South Boston due to a large sinkhole that developed near the L Street Bathhouse. The 10-foot-wide, 6-foot-deep hole was caused by vibrations from an MWRA tunnel boring machine, which is boring a subsurface tunnel as part of a long-term MWRA project.
