New Station Building Constructed: 1952 - 1953

As a State Representative in 1951, William X. Wall introduced legislation to authorize construction of a modern environmental sanitation research laboratory in Lawrence. With his support, the present Station building was constructed in 1952-1953 and occupied in 1954. The building is located at 37 Shattuck Street in Lawrence and has approximately 22,000 square feet of floor space. In 1952-1953, the total construction cost of the building, including the cost of the land and laboratory equipment, was $492,000. Shown above are the Station building as it appeared during construction in 1953 and as it currently appears.
