In 1975, the Lawrence Experiment Station was designated as a "National Historic Civil Engineering Landmark" by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Shown (above left) at the plaque presentation are: third from left. Dr. Abel Wolman, Professor Emeritus, Johns Hopkins University, keynote speaker; fourth from left, William Sangster, ASCE President; fifth from left. Dr. John Delaney, LES Chief at the time; sixth from left, John Collins, Chief Engineer, Massachusetts Department of Public Health; and seventh from left. Senator William X. Wall. The plaque was accepted by Joseph A. McCarthy, former LES Chief (1910-1962), and Dr. John Delaney.
