Since the days of Hiram Mills, thousands of U.S. and foreign sanitary scientists and engineers have visited the Station. The Station Visitor's Books, beginning in 1890, contain the names of the world's great sanitary leaders; all states and over 60 foreign countries are represented. Over the years, Station scientists and engineers have been heavily involved in training sanitary personnel from the U.S. and foreign countries. Shown above are training sessions conducted in the late 1950's. In the photograph on the right, Joseph McCarthy (former LES Chief) is shown providing bacteriological instruction to Sook Pyo Kwan of South Korea. Kwan later became head of the South Korean national laboratory.
