Waste Collection Vehicle Retrofits & Diesel Hybrid Truck Purchases
Through a competitive grant program, the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) offered funds to municipalities and private waste haulers to equip selected diesel waste collection vehicles with pollution control devices that will reduce the vehicles' tailpipe pollutants - bringing cleaner air to the state's waste workers and communities.
Funding was available to retrofit both waste and recycling trucks. Municipalities were also eligible for grants to purchase diesel hybrid work trucks to replace older vehicles that were being scrapped. Applications for these grants are no longer being accepted. The deadline for applying was July 31, 2009.
