Posavina Oil Tanker
DEP provides support for cleanups of very large spills of oil and hazardous materials. On June 8, 2000 a punctured hull on the oil tanker Posavina led to a spill of approximately 50,000 gallons of fuel oil to Chelsea Creek/Boston Harbor. DEP/BWSC staff provided technical oversight to ensure the spill was cleaned up promptly, preventing potentially major environmental damage.
