Buzzards Bay #6 Fuel Oil Spill April 27, 2003

On Sunday April 27th, 2003, Bouchard Transportation Barge 120 lost approximately 14,700 gallons of #6 fuel oil to Buzzards Bay..

Wind and current caused the oil to be transported to the shoreline that includes sensitive shellfish habitat beds.

Shoreline Cleanup Teams identified significant oiled shorelines and some oiled shellfish beds.

The Unified Command deployed Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Teams to determine which shellfish beds and shorelines were oiled.

Significant progress has been made with recovery of the oil. Along the 40 miles of oiled shoreline, 3500 gallons of oil and 3500 cubic yards of oiled debris have been recovered.
