Granby Auto Recycler Penalized for Environmental Violations
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has entered into a settlement agreement with Granby Auto Salvage, located on School Street in Granby, to address violations of state environmental regulations.
The violations included noncompliance with the management requirements relating to waste oil and failure to register its waste oil space heater with MassDEP. Granby Auto Salvage cooperated with MassDEP and entered into an agreement in which the company will correct the violations and pay a penalty of $1,000.
"Generators of hazardous waste are obligated to comply with the applicable regulations regarding the management of that waste," said Michael Gorski, director of MassDEP's Western Regional Office in Springfield. "These requirements are designed to ensure a safe workplace and a safe environment."
MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
