Pepperell Fuel Dispensing Company Assessed $1,600 Penalty For Air Quality Control Violations
Community Garage & Autobody, Inc., which operates a fuel dispensing and auto repair facility in Pepperell, will pay a $1,600 penalty for air quality control violations connected to the gasoline vapor recovery system at its 117 Main Street location.
In January of 2007, an inspection by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) personnel determined that the company had failed to perform timely in-use compliance tests on its Stage II gasoline vapor recovery system, and it failed to have a current record of all personnel trained to operate the Stage II system.
In a recently finalized consent order, the company agreed to comply with applicable regulations and pay the $1,600 penalty.
"Unfortunately, this company has failed to perform timely compliance testing on a repeated basis," said Martin Suuberg, director of MassDEP's Central Regional Office in Worcester. "Proper and timely testing of the recovery system ensures that vapors are properly collected."
MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
