Worcester Property Management Company Fined $2,875 after Sewage
is Discharged to a Wetland Next to Clinton Apartment Complex

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) has assessed a $2,875 penalty to Micozzi Management, Inc. of Worcester to resolve violations of the Surface Water Discharge regulations that occurred earlier this year at its property, Towne Lyne Village Apartments, in Clinton.

In February 2009, MassDEP responded to reports of a release of sewage at this apartment complex, located at 290 Berlin Street, and determined that in clearing a clogged sewer line, the company allowed sewage to be pumped from a manhole to an adjacent wetland.

Under the terms of a consent order, Micozzi Management agreed to pay the $2,875 fine and submit for MassDEP approval, a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) to be employed to prevent releases of pollutants from this property in the future.

"Having an approved SOP in place will prevent environmental damage, ensure compliance with local and state regulations, and save the company time and money." said Martin Suuberg, director of MassDEP's Central Regional Office in Worcester.

MassDEP is responsible for ensuring clean air and water, safe management and recycling of solid and hazardous wastes, timely cleanup of hazardous waste sites and spills, and the preservation of wetlands and coastal resources.
