Diesel Emissions Reductions
Massachusetts has developed a ten-point action plan, including retrofits of all school and transit buses by 2010, to immediately reduce the public health impacts of diesel pollution. This $1.73 million in stimulus funds ($88 million allocated to states by formula) has been added to existing program funds to advance this plan:
- Repower eleven MBTA Cummins head end locomotive engines ($1,100,000)
- Complete the Massport Fish Pier Electrification project ($100,000)
- Retrofit waste hauler vehicles ($115,000)
- Fund the incremental cost for municipalities to purchase diesel hybrid trucks. ($160,000)
MassDEP also applied for and received $502,500 in additional diesel reduction stimulus funds under a competitive application process ($156 million in competitive grants was available nationwide).
