Municipal Waste Combustor Class II Recycling Program Waste Characterization Studies, February & March 2011

310 CMR 19.300 requires Massachusetts combustion facilities to conduct waste characterization studies within 18 months of receiving their Class II Recycling Program certifications from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP).  Six facilities have completed this requirement.  MassDEP expects to conduct additional analysis of this data and will post additional related information as it becomes available.

Massachusetts Municipal Solid Waste & Recycling Surveys

Information gathered from online surveys completed by city and town solid waste/recycling officials.

NOTE: These survey results differ from the data MassDEP collected by other means for 2008 and earlier years in that they do not include recycling rates or the data needed to calculate rates as MassDEP has done in the past.  For this reason, it is not possible either to compare data collected using the different methods, or to calculate municipal recycling rates from this survey data that can be compared to previously published rates.
