Recycling Education Assistance for Public Schools (REAPS)
The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) established the Recycling Education Assistance for Public Schools (REAPS) Program to promote knowledge and understanding of solid waste issues as well as help develop waste diversion programs in public schools.
REAPS services include entertaining and educational classroom presentations, assemblies and teacher training sessions on a variety of solid waste issues including source reduction, recycling, composting, worm composting and household hazardous waste reduction and disposal. In addition, some of the REAPS contractors provide technical assistance to initiate or improve school recycling and composting programs. REAPS services are provided by educators, performers, and recycling professionals under contract with MassDEP.
Although budgetary constraints do not currently allow MassDEP to provide free REAPS services to schools, any political subdivision of the Commonwealth, including municipalities, schools and other service districts may purchase services from the state contract. The REAPS state contract, EQE-H232, is effective through October 13, 2006. REAPS contractors are listed below. Contact the contractors directly for fees, scheduling, and more information about the services they offer.
